“There is nothing that man fears more than the touch of the unknown.”Crowds and Powerby CanettiReview:by Susan Sontag"Canetti dissolves politics into pathology, treating society as a mental activity--a barbaric one, of course--that must be decoded."--++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++The Black Sun: The Alchemy and Art of Darkness by Stanton MarionReview:by Maddalene"The Black Sun is an extraordinary examination of the alchemical stage known as the "nigredo"..the blackening or mortification, so often experienced as depression, terror, or madness. I was especially transfixed at the way in which Dr. Marlan expresses the paradoxical nature of these experiences in that the darkness itself contains a "shine" or luminescence, that is the light of nature, not that of heaven. The text is richly referenced with the writings of Dr. Jung, several case studies, and many other literary examples. This book is an eloquent validation of a domain of experience that is unavoidable, yet so often denied."++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Those are the next two books I'm reading. And since I generally read four books at a time I'm going to toss in Koontz's "The Good Guy", and also Laurel K. Hamilton's "Danse Macabre".I watched my first interview with Joseph Campbell tonight. It was called "The Hero's Journey", and WOW. How wonderful to find somebody that actually spoke my language. He spoke my thoughts on God and the way that individual cultures transform a united mythology with little quirks of their own. He said after he got out of college he didn't do anything but read for five years. I didn't do anything but listen to books for 20 years, while working. Of course the reading material may have been different, but I'm sure I must have picked up on a few universal themes.Oh, and oddly enough, my one truly functioning male persona was named BlackSun. He was great. He knew how to play a game properly. With focus and a firm hand on his sword and shield. I still remember the disbelief that rippled through those that knew me as Lady China or Avalonia, when they discovered that I was the stalwart BlackSun too. Why limit yourself? This is freedom.
