Four tribes lived in total difference, and yet with symbiotic cohesiveness. One tribe were nomadic hunters. They traveled the lands bringing down prey and curing the meat. One tribe was agricultural and spent their days tending crops of grains and vegetables. One tribe was comprised of artisans that crafted jewelry and composed songs and dances. The artisans would travel to the camp of the the farming tribes when necessary to exchange songs and dances for supplies of grain. The hunters would wander in to the artisans' camp for entertainment and pretty things in exchange for their meat. And so it went between the tribes, back and forth. Symbiosis. The fourth tribe was the most powerful of all. They didn't offer any kind of material goods. They had nothing concrete to exchange. They didn't live in an easily accessible area. In fact they lived in the deepest darkest part of the jungle. They didn't travel out to meet the other tribes, the tribes trekked through the relentless jungle to find them. This was the tribe of Sorcerors. They were the intercidents between the gods and the members of the other tribes that fell to the awful wrath of the demon forces and became ill. They went to the camp of the Sorcerors and gave them immense amounts of the goods they made. Because the human body is designed to fight disease, most of the time the ill became well, and the power and value of the Sorcerors was reinforced. When the tribe member died there was much anger - at the demons. The Sorcerors actually received the sympathy and praise of the one's they had "failed", because obviously they'd had to engage in a battle with such a terribly powerful spiritual enemy. What a great gig. After I read that story in "The Lucifier Principle - a scientific expidition into the forces of history" by Howard Bloom I started to think about how people use ritual in order to feel more in control of that which they cannot control. About how I've used it. When I felt there was alot of negativity around me I utilized the shield of the color black, to absorb the impact. I have no proof that this works. I don't need proof. I have a ritual in place that allows me to feel that I am in control. By default I feel better. Since I feel better, I am better. I engage in little rituals throughout the day better known as "old wives tales" in order to try and control the outcome of a situation. "Never place a dinner knife with the blade facing out - you'll inspire ill-will in the person it's facing and have a disagreement." "Never put a purse on the floor, you'll never keep your money.""Don't pick up a penny that is laying tails up - you'll have bad luck"How many of us try to be Sorcerors of our own lives? Using ritual to try and keep control of the randomness of life. If we're very clever do we somehow manage to get others to let us be the performers of rituals for them - like the jungle tribe? Do you know anybody that acts as a Sorceror in your life? Does that make you lazy, inept, or just plain stupid?Engage in ritual, take control, regain your personal power.
