"...Once upon a time I named myself Nekyia - the 11th book of the Odyssey in which Odysseus, the thinking hero, journeys to the Underworld in order to consult with the blind propet Tiresias (famously transformed into a woman for seven years too) in order to find a way home..." I think."...Just click your heels together and say, "There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home." You need ruby slippers and the advice of a good witch that roams the countryside as a bubble as well as the right words..." I think."...Say your right words. As the pain sweeps through,Makes no sense for you,Every thrill has gone,Wasn’t too much fun at all.But I’ll be there for you,As the world falls down. And there I am, inside the bubble. The magic is mine..." I think.None of that is real. It's pertinent, but it can't be done. Is of no help. If all I had to do was to take on another world, wear the right shoes, and slide into the magic it would be a relief. Instead I have to put my arm around Terror, make a cup of tea for Powerlessness, and wipe the drool from the mouth of Hope and sit politely at the table of Time.It will be okay. Someday my family will walk away from that table, bid adieu to the uninvited guests, and we will be stronger and wiser. My grandson will just be told stories from time to time of his first Halloween on planet Earth. How he was fighting a battle that we couldn't see. The word cancer will regain its uncomfortable taste in our mouth, instead of being something we chew and chew and chew to make it bearable since it must be born, endured, and ultimately conquered. I wish I had a better weapon. Faith is all I've got to lay my hands upon. Faith in others. Faith in science. Faith in the great and powerful God, and isn't the world he/she runs odd? A real tea party with the Mad Hatter doing the pouring.I'm drinking deep.
