Recognize that face? Thats right - its a SEA MONKEY. The kind of fantastical magical pet that you could send away for with a coupon from the back of a comic book. How well I remember my first Sea Monkey habitat.I sold greeting cards door to door when I was about 10. The goal? The palace of the mystical Sea King and Queen and all their cavorting Monkey subjects. I'd studied the literature - I had memorized the grainy pictures of grinning crown capped creatures. They looked so HAPPY. The King even had a scepter that he held in his little hand and wrapped his Sea Monkey tail around. Finally I achieved my dream. Enough cards were sold, my reward arrived. I was confused at first. I was sure the picture had shown at least a throne. Not only didn't I get a throne. I didn't even get a throne room. Oh well - a glass would do. So I began my first alchemy experiment. Mix the packages of mysterious Sea Monkey essence with water. Wait. Watch. Maybe find a magnifying glass I'd been using to burn shapes into a piece of wood. Peer. Ponder. At last... Tiny white specks were the visual signal for my imagination to re conjure the grinning monkey faces. I used my magnifying glass and stared. Was that a crown!? The King had arrived! And there was the Queen! Oh, they were so incredibly graceful in their twitching progress through their underwater realm. Subjects arrived to honor the royal pair. There was a party in my water glass and I was invited. Now I know that Sea Monkeys are a species of brine shrimp. I don't care. I will never forget that first inspiring moment when exotic life forms entered my life. Today my little girl will be celebrating her 11th birthday. She will be passed the role of Sea Monkey Goddess. Straight from her mother, with love and a secret smile - knowing the sights she'll see.You can purchase Sea Monkey kits in the stores now. Obviously the King and Queen have some very good armies and diplomats. Their realm is flourishing. Long Live the Sea Monkey!
