One of the paradigms of behavior to strive for was as follows: Ideal critical thinkers are disposed to - 1. Care that their beliefs be true, and that their decisions be justified; that is, care to "get it right" to the extent possible. This includes the dispositions to a. Seek alternative hypotheses, explanations, conclusions, plans, sources, etc., and be open to them b. Endorse a position to the extent that, but only to the extent that, it is justified by the information that is available c. Be well informed d. Consider seriously other points of view than their own Now, there has been a statement made within the realms of this board more than once, that being that "all roleplay.... in some part.... carries a part of self." This is where formulaic logic comes in to play. A = B, B = C, therefore A = C - lets see... (A and B) Lady China is a bitch. (B and C) Bitching is roleplay. (A and C) Lady China is roleplay. Using logic, which one of those statements just isn't true for the masses. If its not true for the masses than you've got the wrong components in your formula. The wrong equation is the B/C combo. Bitching is roleplay. Lets further our investigation into roleplay/acting/imagining - what is its base essence? Ah - creativity. Yes, there it is. Roleplay is creativity. Creativity might manifest itself in any number of displayed behaviors - bitchery, sensuality, scientific calculations, poetic prose, stupidity, innocence, savagery- in roleplay, all of those fall under the umbrella creativity. So. The proper logical conclusion for the statement - "all roleplay.... in some part.... carries a part of self." - is not that a person that roleplays a bitch is a bitch, or one that roleplays a clutz is a clutz, or one that roleplays wholesome goodness is wholesomely good. The logical conclusion for that statement is that "all roleplay...in some part... carries a part of self, and therefore, roleplayers have in their selves - creativity. Anything of your own creation is from a part of yourself - you and you alone own the words you put down on paper/online/wherever (unless you're unconsciously channeling someone else). The actions of the character you roleplay aren't necessarily a reflection of your personality, but defintitely a reflection of your creativity, and your creativity is a part of your self.
